6 Tips in Buying a Sofa

6 Tips When Buying a Sofa

Most people buy sofas solely based on the look and feel of the fabric. No more than a year will go by where they notice the cushions sinking, fabrics coming apart and possibly frame breaking. The over clichéd statement of "you get what you pay for" stands very true when it comes to buying sofas, love-seats or any other upholstered goods.

Here are 6 Tips in finding out what to look for when purchasing a new sofa set.

1. FOAM
The quality of foam is based off of the density number.
Most people think it's the firmness level that determines
the quality which is completely wrong.
Remember these two factors:
Density = Quality
Firmness = Level of Firmness Only
Most stores that cater to residential homes use foam density that ranges from 1.2 - 1.8.  Higher densities (2.0 - 2.5) can be found in more expensive residential furniture.
Here at Stylnn we use high density foam that ranges from 2.5-2.7 in density.
3.0 density foam is hard to get a hold of, due to the high price tag and it is not an item that is of high demand. Heavy commercial foam density of 3.0 foam. The higher the foam density the more the cushion will cost.
Foam Densities:
1.2
1.8
1.9
2.0
                                                           2.5 - 2.7   STYLNN's Density of Choice
We use the Highest Resilience Foam 2.5 - 2.7 ask around. If a sales person has no idea what density weight is being used on their products, it's best to stay away and shop at Stylnn.
2. SPRINGS - The best furniture spring system is an 8-Way Hand-Tie System and we provide just that which makes every sofa that much more comfortable.
3. WOOD - Find out what type of wood is being used and if any real wood is being used is the better question. Dry Kiln Alder Wood is the structure of STYLNN's products ranging from chairs, sofas, loveseats, benches and more. The entire frame joined with water-based commercial glue (non-toxic).
4. FRAME - If you don't get offered a warranty for the frame, then you might have a cheaper product than you expect. Companies that offer a Lifetime Warranty on all upholstered goods would seem to be a great place to purchase from.  They stand by their products like we do.
5. FABRICS - Always check the double rub count. The abrasion rating is measured in Double Rubs using the Wyzenbeek Test.

3,000 or less: Minimal Contact With Fabric | Curtains, Drapes, or Pillows.

3,000 - 9,000: Low Contact With Fabric | Residential Limited Usage

15,000 - 30,000: Medium Contact With Fabric | Residential Usage

30,000 - 60,000: Constant Contact With Fabric |  Residential, Restaurants, Offices,

60,000 - 100,000:  High Contact With Fabric | Hotels & Residential

STYLNN Only Uses 50,000 - 100,000 Double Rub Fabrics

6. PILLOW FILLING OPTIONS
Fiber | Basic Filing
Trillium
Down Feather
Wool | Eco-Friendly
Cotton | Eco-Friendly
Always be cautious with fiber and down feather.
The more shredded the fiber the higher the quality. Fiber that is in larger pieces will ball up and cause bulging with time.
Down feather combinations are 10/90, 25/75 and 50/50.  With 10/90 being the lowest qualities with only 10% down (softest feather of the animal) and 90% standard long feather.
Wool & Cotton are good filing as pricey as down feather 25/75 but now a days is used widely for eco-friendly furniture.
